PERU CONSERVATION
BELGICA INDIGENOUS PRESERVATION
Through its forest conservation activities in the Belgica, Madre de Dios region, the project works with indigenous tribes to prevent the emission of greenhouse gases produced by deforestation and forest degradation, and thus contribute to the mitigation of climate change. The project also improves the incomes of families and strengthens gender equality by empowering women through job creation and inclusion in all decision-making entities. To guarantee permanence of benefits, the project trains in sustainable development skills related to agroforestry, crafts, and the harnessing of shiringa, a unique amazonian plant that can be commercialized organically and sustainably.
